What a great post, thank you. My own feelings of loss, grief, and violation after my c/section were given much the same treatment. My baby was healthy, and I was grateful for that, but I still feel coerced into it, and will always have sad feeling mixed in with my joy at my son's birth. So many women do, and I wish I could just *slap* authors who blithely propose c/section as the only way to go. It's not like having your appendix out, for Pete's sake!

Here's hoping the UK listens to the actual *research* not the howling of the ignorant press.

Way to go UK! How exciting and frustrating at the same time, I hope the proposal survives the negative press. We're beginning work on legislation in Kentucky to license CPM's again (licensing ceased in 1975.) I expect we might have to face similar battles in the press down the road...

Long time reader, first time commenter. Thank you so much for writing this post!

I live in the UK and embrace the new agenda for increased birth choices for women. I would love to see it become a reality.

Great post. There is also the argument that births at home might actually be safer than births in a hospital. I'm sure you are familiar with the WHO's correlational statistics on birth mortality and morbidity by country that suggest that.

We'll see if I'm in England for this revolution! It would be incredible if I could somehow become a part of it - perhaps as a doula...
